Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey Overview.
Fuel source, recovery, and great mixability all packed into one container.
When you are supplementing with a protein powder, you want it to be the highest quality possible and Gold standard Whey Protein lives up to that expectation.
It’s packed with an unwavering blend of whey protein isolate, whey protein concentrate, and whey peptides that help promote lean muscle mass.
Gold Standard Whey has 24 grams of protein per serving, 5.5 grams of BCAA’s (Branched Chain Amino Acids), and 4 grams of glutamine. If you are unfamiliar with BCAA’s or Glutamine then I would suggest you read my other article “What are the best supplements for building muscle? Increase mass and strength.”
Optimum Nutrition is a very trusted sports nutrition company and has been around since 1986 (more than my entire life here on earth). So for them to last this long in the industry means that they are doing something right.
Typically after my workouts, I make sure to fill my body with all the right nutrients. Amino acids, glutamine, and of course protein will give me the right supply for muscle growth and recovery.
Not to mention, this powder mixes very well so it makes it very convenient – especially for us that use shaker bottles and like to do things on the fly.
Within this Gold Standard Whey review, I want to take some time and share my honest and personal favorite aspects of this product as well as a few possible downsides.
How Gold Standard Whey can be effective.

Whether you train 3 days a week or 6 days a week, supplementing with Whey Standard Gold can have its effectiveness on your body.
For myself, I noticed feeling an increase in strength and more repetitions during my training as long as I was supplementing with it consistently.
It has the right formula to make your training more robust and allow your muscles to repair and build at a faster rate when you add this to your routine.
It’s deliverables has proven to be consistent throughout the years and it’s been trusted by millions of people that have reaped these benefits, including myself.
High in protein and very low in fat which is undeniably a good combination especially if you really want lean mass.
But it’s not just the protein. It’s the amino acids and the glutamine that play a role in optimizing your fitness and recovery.
Gold Standard Whey protein is an ideal choice for anyone who wants to build muscle and improve their fitness. Thanks to its high quality and effectiveness, it’s the gold standard for proteins.
What about the taste?

Let’s be honest, not every supplement out there has the best taste. I wouldn’t doubt that you tried at least one or two protein powders that had a bitter or off-putting taste.
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard has defied the odds when it comes to taste and over the years has been a top choice for many bodybuilders. They have done a great job at formulating a powder with not only great taste but also 20 plus flavors to choose from which I think is pretty fascinating.
So just which flavors do they have and how good are they? Here’s a few popular flavors:
- Extreme Milk Chocolate
- Double Rich Chocolate
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Mocha Cappuccino
- Cookies and Cream
I honestly haven’t tried every single flavor but I usually stick with those five that I just mentioned. Some flavors, like the extreme milk chocolate, taste well when mixing with both water and milk.
Others however, may taste richer and sweeter with just milk like the double rich chocolate flavor. Using just water with the double rich chocolate in my opinion taste a little bland and lacks that robust chocolate flavor.
There are other flavors you can try as well like chocolate malt, chocolate dipped banana, birthday cake, cake batter, strawberry, strawberry banana, peppermint mocha, rocky road, or white chocolate.
Possible down sides?
Not too many cons in my opinion but it does contain some artificial sweeteners. Although its considered safe for human consumption, depending on someone’s tolerance level, some people may experience some digestive problems like gas or bloating.
But the good news is, if it does seem to be a problem, you can always try the Naturally Flavored Gold Standard Whey, which doesn’t contain any artificial flavors or sweetener. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors.
Another thing, I’m not really a big fan of soy and Whey Standard Gold does contain it. It’s a common allergen and could cause some digestive problems but it really varies from person to person depending on tolerance.
But so far I haven’t had any problems with it and most people seem to be fine with it as well.
What’s the verdict? Whey or nay?
Overall, I’ve got to say that Gold Standard Whey is a formula that just clicks on all cylinders and does the job right.
It has all the right tools to revolutionize your fitness in many aspects including performance in the gym, promoting hypertrophy muscle growth, and just looking and feeling better.
I truly believe that Optimum Nutrition has always proven itself to be one of the top trusted sports nutrition companies in the world for this reason.
Despite just a couple of things that I’m not a big fan of like some artificial flavors and its soy content, it still does the job for me. It’s nutrients, great taste, and great mixability has always done very well for me.
If this sounds like a supplement that you’re interested in, then I would highly recommend that you pick up your own container of Gold Standard Whey either at a supplement store or online.
